FINDING THUY

The film Finding Thuy is the extraordinary story surrounding the return of the diaries of Dr. Dang Thuy Tram and the Viet Nam veteran brothers who returned them home to Thuy’s family after 35 years. What began as an act of conscience between one man and his past has not only returned Thuy's spirit to her mother's heart, but brought two families and two countries closer together in ways that sometimes seem almost mystical.

On June 22, 1970, a platoon of American soldiers encountered the enemy on a steep mountain trail in the Ba To jungle of Quang Ngai Province of Viet Nam. Their shouts for surrender were met with rifle fire. They fired back. Three of the Vietnamese were killed. One of them was a young physician, Dr. Dang Thuy Tram, a civilian volunteer from Hanoi, assigned to the public health unit of the National Liberation Front.

On her body along with her medical supplies was a small hand-made diary. The delicately scripted words and thoughts which filled the fragile book have captured the hearts and minds of readers all over the world. ...more
